Kevin Ryan
Name: Kevin Ryan
What do you do professionally in the snowboarding world? I wrote "The
Illustrated Guide to Snowboarding"
Started riding in what year? Christmas 1988
Where did you grow up? In and around Syracuse, NY
Live now? Boulder, CO
Fave places to ride? Anywhere with my friends.,,
Do you warm up each day before you ride?
If so, what do you do to warm up?
I take an easy run and then stretch myself out after I have warmed up a
bit. I am much more flexible then.
How keep in shape in season? Eating well and snowboarding as much as
I can.
How keep in shape for snowboarding out of season? Eating well,
cycling, hiking, climbing and playing lots and lots of pinball.
Do you ever get bummed out about your riding, and why? Oh yeah,
whenever I hit a tree. I get really bummed out.
How do you fix it? With stitches.
What safety equipt. do you wear, use for snowboarding? Hemlet,
goggles, sunscreen (yes I know it sounds silly, but sun damage at 10,000 +
feet really sucks)
What have you read
The Holy Qu¹Ran, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Harold and the Purple
Crayon by Crockett Johnson
listened to
Delights of the Garden by Desmond Williams, Infotainment by Pitchshifter,
One Offs, Remixes & B-sides by Bonobo
seen
Howl¹s Moving Castle, The extended version of ³The Return of the King²
that you liked lately?
I like it all.
Where have you traveled to lately that you like?
For snowboarding? I went to Monarch Snowcats this spring and had one of the
best days of my life on a snowboard.
Anything that not many people know about you that you would like to
share?
I want to be just like my 8 year old son when I grow up.
Encouraging words for beginners? I nearly broke my arm on my first
day. The day after was worse. It has been better after that. Every year my
riding has gotten better and better. I have met so many people and had so
many opportunities through involvement in this sport. My life is better
because of snowboarding. I know if you keep at it, yours will be too.
Advice you want to share? What are you waiting for? Live well now!
